Cancer
What an awful thing. This week I got some great news and some bad news. First the good news. My friend Tara is in remission! Praise the Lord! She has been through so much with her cancer. I am so glad she got a great report.
Today, my daddy called and let me know that he has cancer. We don't know exactly what that will mean for him. He has some more tests this week and will know more after that. Just pray for him.

Run, Run As Fast As You Can
Practice, practice, practice. We know what to do! This was our Tornado Drill. We trust we will never have to use it, but we are ready.
The Gingerbread Man created quite an adventure for us today! Over the long weekend our room took on some water and maintenance had to dry our carpet. We decided the Gingerbread Man must have snuck out when they were not looking. Yesterday, we made Wanted Posters for our hallway. We put out the word he was missing.
Today, the Gingerbread Man left a clue on our door - Walk, walk as quietly as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man. The hunt was on! We looked in the Clinic, the Music Room, the Playground, and the Media Center. Finally, we found him in our room with Gingerbread Cookies for us! Yum! Yum!

The First Week Of School
I only had three days with my new students this week, but they were great days. It has been very interesting. My students are all from families that speak English as their second language. I teach the ESOL Sheltered class for Kindergarten. Many of them speak their native language at home and only use their English at school. I, on the other hand, speak only English. I speak no Vietnamese, no Portuguese, no Creole, and hardly any Spanish. If I actually tried to use my Spanish I think I would get into trouble for saying the wrong thing - so I don't even try. I am glad my students are not like that. They are brave. Some speak English very well and others don't say much, but they can understand me pretty well. Sign language is a great way for us to communicate. One of the first signs we learned was for the bathroom.
I really think this year has been the best beginning of the year I have ever had. These boys and girls are so smart, fun, sweet, and loving. I am looking forward to having a great year! Hopefully it is back to work on Monday.
We are reading different versions of The Gingerbread Man (The Gingerbread Girl and The Gingerbread Baby). We have our own Gingerbread Man (stuffed doll) in our room so we are making sure to lock the door when we leave so he doesn't go wandering around the school.

Rain, Rain Go Away
Finally! Tropical Storm Fay is headed away! Hey, Hey, Hey, Good-bye!
Leaves and limbs all over my yard, the pool is full of water, but everything is fine! That's what is important.

Here we go again...
Great first day of school. When will our second day begin? It is hurricane time, so who knows. It won't be tomorrow.

I Miss That Commercial
I haven't seen my favorite back to school commercial. I am very disappointed - I love commercials.
Picture in your mind...
The family is doing back to school shopping. The kids are dragging along, while mom and dad are joyously putting school supplies in the buggy. You hear the cheerful music...
"It's the most wonderful time of the year!"
So funny! I love it!
Two more days!

New Friends
I met 8 new students today. They are wonderful children! I know we will have a great year! A couple of my students don't speak much English, but we got along great!
It was so nice to have some of my old students come by to see me too!
I went to the killer spin class tonight - so after my long day and a hard workout, I am tired.

Remembering Kindergarten
Today I posted my kindergarten class picture on my classroom door. The year was 1973-74. I remember my teacher, Mrs. Hollingsworth. Her husband was my 7th grade band teacher. I know the names of several of my classmates and even graduated high school with a few of them. Where does all the time go?
In 6 days a group of little faces will walk in my room to begin their kindergarten career. I hope they have as much fun as I did.
I am thinking about the next poll question I am planning to ask, but it will take some work on your part. The question is "Did you or your mom cry on your first day of kindergarten?" I know that some of you may not be able to ask your mom, if she has gone to be with Jesus, but see what you can find out or remember.

My Class List
I got my class list today. As I read over it and try to say the last names it reminds me of when my mom was a substitute teacher. She wrote her name, Mrs. T, on the board. When she would call roll, she had a hard time with some of the names. If any of the students poked fun, she would write her whole name on the board for them... Mrs. Throckmorton.
I am looking forward to my new year. I have 14 students so far. Back to work!

It Looked Like Cliff Diving To Me
It is not fair when the family teams up against you. You see them plotting and whispering. Then they look at you and giggle. You know they are up to no good. Then they share their wonderful idea with you. Nervous, uneasy, "freaked out" to sum it up. My sweet family wants to throw themselves off a cliff. Gary says it is only 20 feet tops. Charis' feet maybe. It seemed so high and my babies went crawling up the mountain to jump to the water below. "Confidence builder", Gary says. "Scare mom half to death", I say.

55 or Bust
This is amazing never before seen footage! Make sure you share this incredible sight with all your friends. It is breath-taking and heart-wrenching at the same time! Heee-heee-heee!
The Lord has been dealing with my speed-racer husband about his driving habits. He blogged a week or so ago about destressing his life and slowing down. I am proud to say he is doing a great job.

To Be Young or To Be Old
When I was young I played with my cousins for hours. We would ride horses and motorcycles, then go build forts and camp fires. It was great fun and we have some great memories from those days ... so long ago.

This weekend my mom's side of the family - the Lenhart's - had our family reunion in Tennessee. We all met at my Uncle David's house, just outside of Nashville. He has a wonderful place - 50 acres with rolling hills, a creek, horses, chickens, and even a little fawn. A great place for my children to ride horses and four wheelers, then go build forts and camp fires.
One highlight of the trip was when the old guys (Gary and Kelly) played the youngsters (Tyler and Justin) in volleyball. The dad's whooped their son's. There were a few others that played in the game, but when you are as competitive as my family, it is all about father and son and one going down.
We have had a great time. I love my family! Even if we are a little crazy.
My Today,
Christy
